Hospital Management Committee (HMC)

A committee functioning for the efficient management and development of hospitals

Hospital Management Committees are constituted in hospitals under the jurisdiction of Panchayats as per Section 173A of the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, 1994, and the Kerala Panchayat Raj (Managing Committees for Public Health Institutions) Rules, 2010, to ensure medical facilities across all departments.

The tenure of the HMC terminates along with the tenure of the Panchayat. Vacancies arising in the committee shall be filled by the Panchayat nominating new members.

The HMC has the authority to take decisions regarding administrative matters and the development of hospitals. The committee must convene meetings once every three months and maintain accounts of income, expenditure, and relevant records.

The accounts are subject to audit by the State Audit Department.
